This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

It is my greatest honor to have the opportunity to cultivate empathy, understanding, and well-being in my students but I cannot do it effectively without some supplies. The materials you are helping to fund—a classroom rug, books that teach compassion, and self-care products—are essential to creating a nurturing and inclusive environment where students can grow both emotionally and intellectually.

Teaching kindness and compassion to young learners is crucial because it shapes them into empathetic, understanding individuals who are capable of making positive contributions to society.

The classroom rug will serve as a gathering space where students can engage in discussions, share their thoughts, and learn about diverse perspectives. The read-aloud books share common themes of kindness and compassion and will open students’ minds to different cultures, experiences, and challenges faced by others, helping them to see the world through the eyes of another. By learning about the struggles and triumphs of others through these compassionate narratives, students will be inspired to take action and help those in need. Self-care products will ensure that students can take care of their mental and physical health, enabling them to be more present and empathetic learners.

To measure success in students' understanding of compassion, I will observe their interactions and facilitate class discussions regarding the importance of kindness, compassion, and empathy. I will also gather feedback from students on how these materials have influenced their perspectives and actions. Success will be evident when students demonstrate increased empathy, a willingness to help others, and an improved sense of well-being.
