Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We are eager to learn and want to have fun while we do,
so we are asking for activities to help us improve. Learning to make words that follow different rules requires more than worksheets to make it seem cool. Help us read words, bead words, and stamp them too, there's so much you can help us do!
Our building is the oldest school building in the city, but we all do our part to make it a clean, vibrant and safe environment for our students.
My diverse students come from all backgrounds and countries and ALL 30 of them come to us as English Language Learners representing 7 languages! My students have an eagerness in them to learn English and grow, which makes me strive even more to bring them the beneficial resources and creative lesson design they deserve. Please consider donating engaging materials for independent learning centers to assist in comprehension and word building and help them succeed in learning a new language!
My Project
This year all of my 30 students are English Language Learners and are not on a 3rd grade reading level. The reading and word-building centers I have used in past years are not appropriate for my current students that range from kindergarten to 1st grade reading levels. I want to be able to support their learning at their appropriate levels while also motivating them to engage and grow with language in a positive and exciting way. Unfortunately, I lack the classroom tools and materials to do this. I want students to practice their new sounds and word patterns learned in their phonics lessons by stamping words out, beading them unto pipe cleaners, and sketching their words on black rainbow paper. I also want to provide comprehension and fiction/nonfiction centers that make learning fun and not a chore!
Please consider supplying nonfiction and fiction comprehension passages and word building materials to provide exciting and appropriate learning centers.
Students will get to build words in a hands-on way, based on their phonics lessons. For many in this class, their first encounter with English is this year and I need your help to motivate them to succeed. Keeping students engaged is a necessity with English Language Learners!
