I work at an incredible school with incredible kids. From kindergarten to fifth grade, they are enthusiastic, creative, and insightful learners.
My school is also incredibly diverse.
In addition to our general education classes, we have a Social Emotional Learning program for students with emotional and behavioral difficulties, which I teach. We also have an Elementary Bilingual Orientation Center (EBOC) for students who are learning to speak English. All together we create a community of learners that I am proud to be a part of.
My Project
Our school is working hard this year to make sure that Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS) are in place for all kids. In order to make this a reality we have worked hard as a staff to create solid school-wide expectations and teach them to the students from day one. We need fun and motivating prizes like slime, toy cars, and art supplies to encourage students who are doing the right thing.
This year we are using a ticket system to reinforce students who get "caught" following expectations and living by our values.
Two tickets from every class get pulled at the end of the month, and those students receive a prize. That is a lot of prizes! We have used up our stock of rewards and need the materials from this project to keep our PBIS systems going. The prizes which will be purchased through this project are highly popular in kid culture. Prizes like stress balls, frisbees, and craft kits will keep students interested and excited to do well.
This project will impact our entire school and help maintain the positive culture we are so proud of in our school community.
