Although our students come from low income neighborhoods, they continue to prove how high achieving they truly are. The growth in their maturity is matched by their new sense of determination to further explore the world and make their own lasting impression. They are interested in the arts, and are always looking for ways to share their talents.
I want my students to push themselves, so I have chosen three challenging classic plays to dissect, perform, and interpret on a high level - both in performance and their scene design.
I want to challenge them because I already know how brilliant they are - I want them to realize it as well!
My Project
Helping my students see that they actually can enjoy reading is one of my favorite things about my job. But many students in my class don't have access to books they want to read at home, and even fewer have practice reading through a play-script. No kid should be discouraged from reading just because they may not immediately have access to the right book for them. As a school community, we try to help instill this love of reading by giving students opportunities to read with their peers in student created book clubs. Our after school theater department is bringing that love of reading to life, and these three plays will be the perfect introduction. I want them to build confidence while exploring a few classics.
We also have students interested in design, both in set design and graphic arts.
Giving my entire class the opportunity to put these talents to task will better prepare my students who are interested in pursuing careers in math, design, and engineering. Having graph paper and a copy of each of these plays for students is necessary for success, so thank you in advance! You are giving students an amazing opportunity.
