Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Most of our students come from low-income households in San Francisco. Our students and their families experience trauma, displacement, homelessness, and unstable housing. Many of our students juggle homework as well as taking care of siblings at home which can cause them to feel overwhelmed. I am the Student Intervention Team Intern and I will be supporting individual students as well as running social skills groups.
Our students are so resilient and bright, but sometimes they aren't able to focus in class because they experience tremendous amounts of trauma and stress; I am committed to providing a safe, clean, and comfortable space for all students.
My Project
We will be using the bean bag chairs in the therapy room to create a comfortable setting. Bean bag chairs also provide excellent relaxation which eliminates mental and physical tension which can cause headaches. Bean bags can be arranged in rows, in informal circles for conversations, or quickly rearranged in a large circle to host chats in the center.
Slime has many positive aspects in students brain development, it also helps them to nourish their social skills.
When they play with slime, they create designs, shapes and even choose colors of their choice. Sensory play also encourages the development of fine motor skills and coordination. Some students like to keep their hands busy and this also helps them to focus. Slime is awesome stress relieving tool, and it makes an awesome brain break for school work!
The "What Should You Do?" is game of consequences, players face everyday dilemmas that deal with topics like honesty, bullying, manners and more. As children race around the game board, they take turns deciding what they should do in each situation—moving closer to the finish line with each correct answer!
