This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
In my special needs classroom, organization and accessibility are essential for creating a calm, structured learning environment. The addition of two bookcases would make a significant difference by allowing me to neatly store and display books, learning materials, and visual aids where students can easily see and reach them.
Clear organization helps reduce anxiety for many students with special needs, as it creates a predictable and navigable classroom layout.
One of the bookcases will be dedicated to our classroom library, which includes picture books, sensory-friendly stories, and social-emotional learning materials. By having these resources clearly displayed and within reach, students will be encouraged to engage more with reading during independent or small-group time. A well-organized library area supports literacy development and fosters a love for books, especially when students can make independent choices about what they read.
The second bookcase will be used to organize instructional materials such as bins for math manipulatives, communication boards, fine motor tools, and visual schedules. These are vital for differentiated instruction and support the diverse learning needs within the classroom. Having a designated space for these tools will allow for smoother transitions, reduce time spent looking for materials, and create a more supportive and student-centered environment.
