Can you imagine what it would be like to move to New York City and not speak a word of English? My students often come into my classroom everyday not understanding a word we are saying. iPad's are such an amazing resource to help them hear, say, and touch the words all at once!
My students are third grade, New York City, English Language Learners.
They are amazing kids that despite their struggles with the English, they are always eager to learn and push themselves. They are living in a lower income area, where often times many of their families are all living together in one house.
My Project
Getting them an ipad for the classroom, will really help to keep their excitement for learning. All kids love technology, and as an educator there are so many great resources to help my students have fun with the English language. Games and activities that are both educational and fun! Students are able to go on listening centers using the iPad, which will help them to hear the words and put words together. This is a fun way to introduce them to English. As I work, with other students, the iPad, helps students to have constant immersion into hearing words and making connections in a fun way.
As a NYC teacher, my class size is 32 kids.
Every resource we have really helps. It often is a struggle to keep so many kids interested at once, especially when they don't all speak the same language! Please help!
