Help me give my students a fully functional library. I have gathered a collection of fiction and nonfiction to support some of the requests that I have gotten from students.

My Students

I am the librarian in a school of about 1300 students. We are a diverse group racially and ethnically and are about half low income. In my time with these lovely scholars, I have not seen any of this divide them. They are a group that realizes they are stronger together and actively work toward that goal.

I am in love with the diversity and personalities all of my students.

They work hard each and every day to be the best versions of themselves. They never cease to amaze me with their creativity and vivaciousness. My students inspire and challenge me everyday and I want to return the favor.

My Project

When I took over as the school library we only had 500 books of the 13,000 suggested for a fully functional library.

Research shows that schools with well stocked and staffed libraries have higher literacy gains than others.

It is important to have books both to support the personal interests of the students as well as their classroom knowledge. Reading for pleasure helps students with reading fluency and vocabulary acquisition. It is also important to have books that support interests scholars may learn in class as well as any for classes they are not yet able to take. I am working to build our library collection back up to support the needs of my student and faculty. Please help us as we work towards supporting the literacy goals of our school!
