My Students
Our student population is very diverse. Seventy-six percent of students belong to ethnic backgrounds that are of minority and many students come from low income families. These students are very open-minded and respectful to each other’s uniqueness. They are willing to try new things, show resiliency on a daily basis, and are able to effectively manage school work, extracurricular activities, and their jobs while keeping positive attitudes.
The rules have been updated and our students are allowed to wear wrestling shorts and compression shirts to compete, this will open up wrestling to a whole new batch of students.
We have a strong group of young wrestlers with three returning state qualifiers and one returning third place finisher.
My Project
Up until now wrestlers had to wear the team issued singlet in order to compete. The singlet has unfortunately been a reason why some students do not try out for wrestling. This season the governing body has decided to allow for wrestling shorts and compression tops in competition, and we already have some students coming out for wrestling who would not have, if not for the rule change. On top of the new uniform, we have so many new wrestlers coming out that we need matching sweatpants and sweatshirts for our entire team, Varsity and Junior Varsity.
New wrestlers will come out and join our growing team because of the sense of unity and teamwork that a matching set of sweatshirts and sweatpants can bring.
More than half of students from low‑income households
