This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
As a teacher in a low-income area, I have witnessed firsthand the unique challenges and incredible potential of my students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The donation of STEM kits and art supplies would make a significant difference in their learning experience by providing hands-on, sensory-engaging activities that cater to their diverse learning needs. These tools can help bridge the gap between abstract concepts and tangible understanding, building both creativity and critical thinking skills. STEM kits can offer structured yet flexible learning opportunities, promoting problem-solving skills and technical knowledge, while art supplies can serve as a powerful medium for self-expression and emotional regulation.
With these resources, we can create a more inclusive and stimulating educational environment that supports the academic growth of our students with ASD and boosts their confidence and social skills.
The primary goals for my students using STEM kits and art supplies are to enhance their depth of knowledge and foster their creativity in a supportive, inclusive environment. By engaging with STEM kits, students will exercise their skills through interactive, hands-on projects that make scientific and mathematical concepts more accessible and comprehensible. The art supplies will provide an outlet for self-expression, helping students articulate their thoughts and emotions through creative endeavors. This approach not only aims to boost their academic achievement and understanding, but also to spark their imagination and emotional intelligence.
Like many students who are on a spectrum or face challenges due to disabilities, my students are unique individuals who require support from professionals like myself. My students are talented, artistically and mentally. Some can recall information that they have read in a book years ago, some have the penmanship of a master calligrapher. Several have skills that are undeveloped, and that is the purpose of our efforts as teachers of students with exceptional qualities.
