My Students

I have the unique opportunity to move up to 5th grade, after teaching 3rd and 4th grade the past seven years. My 5th graders (and leaders of the school) are a beautiful blend of motivated, inquisitive, and thoughtful students. They come from a wide variety of backgrounds and cultures; each with their own special story to tell. My goal is for all of my students to strive for success within the classroom and beyond and create a learning environment where each of these learners can feel valued, worthy, and safe each and every day.

My Project

The books chosen are key to a 5th grade classroom. Books about Westward Expansion open up the doors to learning about the pioneers and trailblazers of our past and can be used as mentor texts when students write informational books about a research topic of their choice.

The You Wouldn't Want To series sparks interest to young readers with its graphics, color and easy to understand writing that helps make information reading more enjoyable.

Adding various informational texts across several topics expands the book selection in my new library as well as helps engage learners as they read informational texts for meaning and understanding.
