Support My Students as They Build Their Classroom Micro Pantry!

As an educator with over 25 years experience, I know that students cannot learn when they are hungry. This is a basic Maslow Hierarchy of Need! As I return to social work this August (after 15 years as a school administrator), I have been reviewing data trying to determine what can help my students increase their attendance, improve their engagement, and succeed to their maximum potential.
I quickly learned that the high school students in my specialized program often come to school hungry!
The reasons for why this is happening differs per student. However, with your help, we can help ensure these learners no longer have a hunger in their belly, which in turn should help them increase their hunger for learning. Each of my students are in a self-contained program where the teachers rotate and the students stay in place. Though they move and change activities often, we believe providing them with healthy food items will also help their growth in many ways for the years to come.
We provide each student a supportive environment to not only earn their credits, but to discover and create a plan for their goals and success too. As a result, my students will have a major role in designing, organizing, and maintaining their classroom micro pantry. The food I have initially ordered is what they have indicated they will most enjoy. In addition, getting an ice machine and water dispenser will help keep them hydrated!
