My Students
My class is the best! I teach a class of 9 students with special needs at a high-needs, public elementary school in San Francisco. My students' disabilities range from autism and dyslexia to deaf or hard of hearing. They are absolute rockstars and work hard every day to make themselves, their families and me incredibly proud.
We are dealing with a lot right now, particularly due to distance learning, and we could use your support!
Even when we do go back to school, there are some items that will mean the world to us. Your kindness will mean the difference between "making it" and succeeding for these great kids.
My Project
My students, particularly my student who is deaf, are learning how to use a communication device to communicate their needs and wants as well as connect with their peers. I will use this device to teach my student how to operate a communication device once a particular communication app is installed.
My deaf student has not received support in learning how to use her device, and this has become even more impossible at home.
With a new device, I will be able to teach my student how to use her own talkie, and this will normalize this new form of communication with my other students. This will also support my students with autism who are nonverbal. When we go back to school, I plan on making the device available to my other nonverbal students.
