My Project

These supplies will be used to support my science classroom this year. Specifically, materials will be used in organic chemistry laboratory activities that will expose high school students to college-level chemistry and prepare them for careers in medicine, pharmacy, and research. The TLC plates and plate cutter will be use to conduct chromatography labs in the classroom. TLC allows for detailed analysis of organic product mixtures. The methylene chloride will be used for a laboratory in which students are challenged to extract and isolate the caffeine from tea leaves. The three-pronged clamps and syringes will also support this laboratory, allowing for precise measurement of chemical reagents. In addition, materials will be used in my geobiology course to support student independent research projects in the Austin area, at local parks and preserves. The tape measurers I am requesting will be used by students to demarcate study transects in Austin park locations. Given the nature of these labs and projects, I am constantly needing to replace and update a wide variety of equipment. I am very appreciative, and I know my students will be too.
