Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My student's are very inquisitive, they love to ask questions like, "Are turtles reptiles? and "How can you travel to space? They also love to choose books about animals, math stories and fairy tales. My student's have diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds. Linguistically, the majority of my students speak Spanish at home and are classified as English Language Learners.
I want continue building their love for learning and discovery by providing them with literacy materials that are hands on and further continue to build on their interests and needs.
Being able to write and read simple consent- vowel- consent words like cat, dog and hat is an essential Kindergarten skill that I want my student's to master through the exploration of hands on manipulatives. The manipulatives will also allow my student's to practice using their sounds in an engaging way that builds on their letter and sound knowledge. The big books will allow me to further model other essential Kindergarten skills like being able to track print and model reading unknown words using strategies we are learning in class. Lastly, these materials will allow my student's to build their independence in order to meet their learning goals.
