Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are all Hispanic and have cultural roots from Puerto Rico, El Salvador, Mexico, Guatemala and Ecuador.

All students are classified as English Language Learners and love to read!

Linguistically, all my students speak Spanish and are learning English through science and social studies units. My students love to ask questions like, "Do animals talk to each other? or Do dogs sleep? My students are very active 6-7 year olds, that during the day you'll see them reading books about different fictional characters, animals or space or writing books about their favorite field trip or animal.

My Project

These materials will make a big difference in my students' literacy development because they have a specific letter attached to them that specify the book's level of difficulty.

It's important to have leveled books in the classroom library because the levels enable students to choose books that are a good fit for them in order to aid with comprehension and reading fluency.

I chose a range of leveled books that are both fiction and nonfiction because my students are at various levels of their literacy development and need a variety of books to spark interest and enrich their reading experiences. With this set of books students will also have more high quality and authentic Spanish books to choose from when selecting books for the classroom library.
