My Students
Here at our school, I have the privilege of working with some of the best students in New York City. What I love most is being able to witness each student reach his/her own potential.
Sometimes it's over the course of a school year, sometimes it takes a little longer, but when students enter my class, no matter what struggles may stand in their way, they will see that through reading, writing, speaking and listening, anything is possible.
I work with many amazing students who come from a variety of backgrounds, interests, talents, challenges and more. Throughout the course of the year, I thrive on watching each student discover more about their identity as they interact with different texts, creative writing, and each other via discussions and activities.
My Project
After a year of remote learning using digital texts, our students are READY for a chance to physically read an important, timeless, piece of literature - Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl.
Students are learning about the Holocaust in their history classes and with this book, they will not only build on what they already know and make connections to what they are learning, but also make connections to the struggles that Anne Frank experienced.
Recently, my students were introduced to independent reading and have been exploring and reading many different genres of literature for fun; however, providing my students with a brand new book will hopefully increase their motivation to closely read it and experience the same joy they have for independent reading.
I already have an engaging unit to explore themes and aid students in understanding and making connections to Anne Frank and the struggles she experienced. All I need to bring this unit to life is THIS book.
