My Students
The students I support are AMAZING humans from diverse backgrounds. I believe ALL people, regardless of ability/severity of disability, gender, race/ethnicity, home language and socio-economic status deserve access to quality literacy instruction! These students have speech-language and literacy needs.
Our students, like so many around the country, have been significantly impacted by school closures and distance learning; these impacts are likely to continue and be amplified by SIGNIFICANT budget cuts.
My Project
Help me give the students I support hands-on access to literacy! Literacy is a human right; it is my view that access to quality literacy instruction is a matter of social justice.
Too often, black, BIPOC and additional marginalized communities do not receive the quality literacy they deserve.
Speech-language pathologists have an important role in supporting communication in all forms, spoken and written, and standing up for the POWER of each human voice!
Often, limited access to quality, culturally competent, literacy instruction lurks in the background of the stories we see in the news. Literacy is a human right and a fundamental way to receive/express information, as well as a way to connect with the richness and diversity of the human literary tradition.
EACH OF US has a sphere of influence. As an educator, I am working to examine my own biases, enact systemic change, and fight for equity in education, and one step at a time. Will you help support these efforts?
