My Project
My students are a diverse group with varied strengths and support needs—ranging from early learners requiring a high level of support to those who have mastered state academic standards but face behavioral challenges. With the right tools and structure, all can grow in meaningful, independent ways. This project focuses on building essential independent living skills beyond academics.
Clear bins with labels and visuals help autistic students understand and organize their environment and follow routines, supporting their independent functioning skills.
I’ll use laminating pouches to make the visuals and labels durable and easy to clean, because I know my students will love seeing their names or faces on the bins!
In the bathroom, this supports tasks like toileting, handwashing, and dressing. Visuals show the order of steps, while clear bins remove guesswork, making routines easier to follow and less stressful.
These tools promote independent functioning and help students feel confident. They also minimize frustration, supporting students with behavioral challenges while building essential skills to live more independently, like their general education peers.
