Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach kindergarten at a wonderful school where students come to learn and work hard each and every day. We participate in meetings on the carpet, and learn a lot through song and movement. I want my students to progress at a steady pace in reading this year.
My students enter kindergarten speaking little to no English.
My class this year will be about 85-90% ESL students. It is so important to provide resources that will enable these students to acquire the English language while keeping their dominant language as well. They are eager to learn and to try new things.
My Project
The seat sacks will be used to store their books, white boards, and supplies at their tables. It will save valuable instructional time by having their supplies at their fingertips instead of stored in personal mailboxes or on shelves. We also need speakers to hook up to our new interactive projector which will project onto the white board. They will be able to watch video clips and learn songs about various topics that we are learning. We also need to expand our leveled library so that students can pick books to read on their level independently.
My project will make a difference because these items will create an organized environment conducive to learning.
It will allow students to develop a love for reading and learning. It will help my ESL students by providing audio and visual to guide their learning.
