Support and Challenge Diverse Bilingual Learners

My students need three Chromebooks in order to receive differentiated independent practice that meets their specific learning needs across all subjects.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

A great education responds to the learning needs of all students. Every day, I prepare to challenge and inspire all my bilingual sixth graders. My classroom is full of brilliant minds that possess unique talents.

My Dual Language students are hardworking, motivated, and always up for a challenge.

They are a fearless, trail-blazing group that has led Dual Language in our school. They undertake grade level content in their native language as well as the second target language in reading, writing, speaking, and listening across all subjects. They are a close-knit group of 21st century learners grounded in the community of our classroom! We need the tools that will help meet their diverse learning needs so that they are supported and challenged everyday.

My Project

My students have diverse areas of strength and areas of growth. This is especially true with the added skill of a second language. Three Chromebooks will be a source of differentiated independent practice to meet every student's need. Some students can figure out multiple ways to solve a math problem. They can be challenged with a math program that tailors the level of difficulty to their performance. Others have a rich vocabulary in Spanish. They can be challenged with a Language Arts program that pushes their creativity and expression. Others love to read and devour books. They can use a progress monitoring program to self reflect. Other students need support with math facts, simple verb conjugation in Spanish, and applying reading comprehension strategies. These students can be supported with small group or one-on-one instruction tailored to their needs. In short, Chromebooks will allow our classroom to be a vibrant workshop where no learner has to be left behind or wait idly.

Donations to this project will greatly enrich the every day learning experience of each of my sixth graders.

No student will experience the dread and frustration of being lost or the impatience of being retaught what they've already mastered. Instead, all sixth graders will spend their learning time engaged in an activity that is tailored to their needs. As such, their education will become a joyful journey that will set them up to be life long learners.
