Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
This is the inaugural year of the Liberal Arts Magnet program at our middle school. Our goal is to provide students with extensive exposure to diverse interdisciplinary studies, with a special emphasis on issues of social justice and equity.
Students will be presented with learning opportunities to think critically about pressing social justice issues that merit discussion and action to ameliorate racial and economic inequities in our society.
Through this program, students will have opportunities to explore careers in K-12 education, likely leading to increased participation by underrepresented groups in education careers.
Students will be utilizing project-based learning (PBL) to learn about lesson-planning, group work, and other important factors about being in the education field.
With the printer, they will be able to make their own lessons and activities that they can demonstrate to the class, as well as create imagery to represent what is means to be a teacher. The egg buzzers are for student-led games and review sessions. The fidget toys are to help my students who need support with staying focused in the classroom. Since this is a new magnet, I will need to buy some resources and the gift card will help me with that.
These students are future educators who already have a passion for teaching! I want to give them opportunities to grow as future leaders and to work towards their goals of being in the education field, one that definitely needs more people in!
