Support a Safe/Calming Space for Students With Unique Needs
Help me give my students a sofa, bean bags, and a rug where students with disabilities, mental health challenges, and sensory needs can feel safe, supported, and ready to thrive.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Resource Lab is a vital safe space on our campus where students with disabilities—including ADHD, autism, mental health disorders, auditory processing challenges, and other health impairments—can come to feel understood, supported, and included. Many of these students struggle with social interactions, sensory overload, or emotional regulation, making it difficult to navigate a traditional school environment.
As a charter school in a low-income area, our students often face additional barriers beyond the classroom.
Many come from underserved communities where access to mental health resources, quiet spaces, and emotional support is limited. Our Resource Lab classroom is one of the few places where they can feel understood, supported, and safe.
To better meet their needs, we are seeking donations to furnish the Resource Lab with a classroom sofa, bean bags, and a soft rug. These items will help create a calm, welcoming atmosphere where students can take sensory breaks, de-escalate when overwhelmed, and find a moment of peace before returning to class.
This space is more than just a room—it’s a therapeutic environment that supports mental wellness, builds a sense of belonging, and helps students succeed academically and emotionally. Your support will directly impact their daily experience and overall well-being.
