My Students
My students face unimaginable obstacles to learning everyday simply because of where they live. My students break through these obstacles every day to achieve their dreams and successes.
My students reside in the largest housing projects in our city.
They face abject poverty, violence, absent parents, hunger, abuse, neglect and expectations of failure. Sadly, they also face the challenge of being ignored and forgotten by our city. They are invisible outside of the walls of our school. They are expected to fail by so many. However, they show up every day. They smile, they laugh and they learn. We share our fears and sadness but we also share an unending love of learning. My students are sponges that soak up every piece of knowledge they encounter. We have an awesome time each day and at the end of the day we share what we learn and every child shares that they learned to read. The expectations of failure are the fire that keeps my students working and learning every day.
My Project
I am requesting some basic supplies for my classroom so that as their teacher, I can continue to provide them with access to books, activities and other crucial learning tools. Sadly, our school does not have the resources to provide ink and paper for these tools and our parents do not have the resources to help out either. The ink, toner and paper will allow me to provide books for my students to take home because there is a huge lack of books and printed materials in my students' homes. These supplies will also allow us to provide meaningful and crucial learning activities that will allow us to learn in every subject. With these supplies we will continue to become great readers, great writers and great scholars.
