My Students

In my classroom, I have a unique population of high school students. Unlike native English learners, my high school students face different obstacles than that of an average teenager in America. They come from all over the world, places such as Cape Verde, Vietnam, Guatemala, Puerto Rico, El Salvador, Mexico, and Portugal.

My students are in America to learn English to gain a successful life in which they can enjoy the freedom so many take for granted.

They are here, learning their second and third language in order to achieve the hopes and dreams they have planned for themselves. Some are here living with relatives while their parents are back in their home country and some have only been in the country for weeks. On top of the usual humps a teenager faces, my students are in a foreign country trying to assimilate and learn a new language all while staying true to who they are.

My Project

My students come from various backgrounds that affect their learning. They are new to the country; therefore, they are worried about immigration laws, learning a new language, and helping provide for their family to thrive in America.

With your support, they will no longer carry the burden of finding supplies and can focus their energy on learning.

My students come to school with little to no supplies due to the lack of funds or the fact that they have no transportation to local stores. With this, they will be able to assimilate into the American school system with out the anxiety of asking others for supplies.

My students need these supplies to be successful in a school environment. Many of my students come into class with no supplies due to lack of funds at home. These are basic supplies they need to help them strive and be learners in the classroom.
