This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I'm a developing teacher and want to equip my classroom with the things that will help students succeed without putting additional pressure on families. This means providing access to English and Spanish books for my students.
Providing a classroom library that reflects the real-life experiences many students face gives students that 'in' that they may need to become invested in their own futures.
Having access to books written by and for minority students improves student literacy skills, encourages recreational reading, and allows students to begin making choices about their own learning.
We need more reading materials for our classroom! I have already partnered with our local libraries to supply students with cards; however not all families are able to bring their students to the library due to time/work constraints. So, I am bringing a classroom library to them.
