Supplies to Organize Future Leaders

My students need binders to track their reading and math goals. The labels, divider sticky notes, caddys will be used to organize their materials. Balance balls, wobble cushions, and clip boards will be for flexible seating.

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My class is comprised of twenty-seven students. My students come from high poverty and most do not come to school with the supplies they need to be successful individuals.

My district is an alarmingly high-needs, Title I district with numerous distractions from education.

Despite the challenges my students face daily (not having enough food, living with multiple families in small housing, and not having personal school materials like pencils), they are dedicated, passionate and emotionally brave students who take on challenges with smiles on their faces. They enjoy discussing books and creating various projects to show what they have learned (posters, speeches, stories, etc).

My students also find success in working together as a whole group and in small groups. I teach the notion of teamwork. It is expressed through my students valuing their group time, to focus on working on the task at hand. Students need flexible seating and areas around the classroom to work with their peers. Classroom design and organization is key to building a successful learning community.

My Project

This project will help students to stay organized and be prepared for class. Instructional time will be maximized and students will be to pay closer attention to the instruction being delivered. Students will be able to label their notebooks and binders so that they can quickly find where they need to be.

Students who need flexible seating will be more comfortable in class and pay closer attention to lessons.

They will be able to sit where ever they want and still be able to complete the task at hand. Students will not need to rely on their parents to provide them with the materials needed to help them have a successful school year.
