Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach language arts to students with a wide range of abilities. Almost half of my students are special needs students; some are non-readers even though they are in fifth grade. The rest of the students are at or above the fifth grade level in reading. One thing they have in common is that they are almost all living at the poverty level, and many come from homes that are unstable. My school is a safe haven for them which emphasizes the importance of learning.

Since I teach to such a wide range of abilities, I believe it is important for the students to learn at their own pace in order to be successful.

Once the students feel confident in their abilities, they will strive to build on their skills and seek further success in their learning experience.

My Project

We are running out of basic school supplies. Our school has become a Fine and Performing Arts Academy. My students now need basic supplies to incorporate the arts into the curriculum. We are now writing and drawing more while reading fiction and nonfiction. We are also adding art into our studies which requires glue, watercolor pencils, and looseleaf paper. Some of my students are very talented writers and artists and they would greatly benefit from these basic supplies. They will be able to use them in school and at home,
