Supplies to Keep My Busy Learners Engaged During UA!
My students need materials for universal access time. UA time is a time when students work independently while I work with a small group on needed skills.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My kids are bright, energetic, full of imagination and fun. I say my kids because that's exactly what they are, I am not only their teacher but sometimes I truly do feel like their mom. I spend more time with my students than I do with my two young daughters at home.
Just like my daughters I want the absolute best for my students.
My heart breaks when I see my kids walking around homeless people on their way to school, or hearing stories about how their families must move again after being evicted. Many of my students have witnessed things that most other six year old children wouldn't dream about.
79% of our students receive free or reduced lunch in comparison to the state average of 52%. Many of these students also come from single parent families. I come to work everyday with the goal of providing a warm, safe and supportive environment for my kids since many of them do not have that in their own homes.
My Project
My busy first graders will use the Creating Sight Word Center to practice learning their sight words as well as their writing. After building their sentences, the students will then write them on their white boards to further support their learning. This center will keep my students engaged while I work with a small group of children on skills that need to be reviewed.
Hands on learning is the best way to get students engaged and these word builders will provide a quick & easy way to practice reading without a big mess and without direct instruction.
The Twist & Turn Word Builders will give my struggling readers the chance to practice reading CVC words using manipulatives.
Finally, the Help Yourself Book Boxes will provide the organization that my class so desperately needs. These boxes will be used to organize our classroom library. The students enjoy reading during UA time, however many of my book bins are old and falling apart. Leaving my books piled high on bookshelves, this makes it difficult for students to find books at their reading levels.
These materials will greatly improve my students independent learning time. They will also provide an organized classroom library that will encourage my students to pick up a book and READ!
