Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I want my students to engage more in the Spanish classroom by making materials more accessible and relevant to their lives. The basic supplies like stickers, laminated sheets, and glue sticks will allow students to engage with the material and comprehension of Spanish no matter what level or style of learner they are.
It is my goal to foster a classroom community that teaches students the importance of understanding, respecting, and working with diverse groups of people.
A lot of my assignments are immersive and many of my students do not have the means to procure basic art supplies like markers or glue sticks. Through my teaching style of using an interactive notebook, students are in need of gluing, cutting with scissors, and coloring in order to create their very own textbooks that they get to keep for their foreign language career! Styling and individualizing things is very key for their age group, so having materials for them to style and decorate their own versions of the notebooks lets them take ownership of the notebook and invest in their future passions. These notebooks are completely catered towards my students individually and truely help boost their confidence in tackling a new language. Simple things like getting to color and mark things using markers help produce long lasting engagement in my everyday classroom.
It is imperative for our students to make their experience in our classrooms relatable to their own lives and help them make connections to foster more open and caring environments that are different from those within our city limits. By having all of these resources, I believe my students can gain the first steps towards engaging in real-world learning.
