My Students

Hello! I teach 8th grade English Language Arts and Reading at a Title I school. I knew very early on that I wanted to be a teacher because I wanted to pass on my passion for literature and reading to the next generation.

My students mostly live in an urban/ industrial area near the school.

Many of them come from large families and are expected to help take care of their siblings. I know that a large number of them deal with a lot more than the average kid, day-to-day. For many of them, going to school is a reprieve.

I see my students work hard in my class day in and day out, regardless of what might be going on in their lives. Every small victory for them is a victory for me as well. It is an educator's job to give students the tools they need to succeed, and I take my job very seriously.

My 8th graders are something extraordinary. They are fiercely loyal, witty, funny, smart, and definitely drive me crazy at times, but there is truly no better group of kiddos. I want to give them every opportunity for success possible.

My Project

Hello all!

I've made this current project on DC to request a few high-volume items that my students need, as well as some office supplies that would make our classroom far more efficient.

The tissues and pencils are things that my students use quite often, and the costs tend to add up. I do my best to coupon / find sales for these things but it's not always easy to do. Getting a stockpile of these things would really help offset the need for them, and I wouldn't have to worry about purchasing them for a while.

Additionally, my electric pencil sharpener has just breathed it's last breath. Getting a new one, along with an electric stapler and hole puncher, would really make my classroom a more efficient place, and would streamline our organizational process. Students would be allowed to use them to keep their work neat, organized, and together. I would also use them to aid in maintaining my own organization.

I also have very limited space (small whiteboard), and have gotten permission to hang one on my one of my bare walls. The extra whiteboard space would allow me to keep an updated data chart and give students a place to look for reminders about assignments and due dates.
