Supplies Set Us Up for Success

Help me give my students the supplies they need to start the year right! We need pencil pouches, earphones, twistable colored pencils, kraft envelopes, felt tip pens, notebooks, highlighters and other classroom basics.

My Project

My students are newcomers- English Language Learners brand new to the United States and to New York City when they start at our school. They are in the midst of so many adjustments and providing them with school supplies helps us start our school work in a smooth way.

Newcomers can jump right into learning when we can provide materials to students to start the year.

With so much to take on as they get used to their new home, having school supplies helps make their transition so much easier. To set our students up for a successful year, we need to provide them with headphones, pencil cases, notebooks, pens, and other classroom basics (like paper towels and white board cleaner). We also need basics to set up their class notebooks- duct tape and ribbon help us make bookmarks in our interactive notebooks and show students where they left off in their notebooks. Sticky tabs help us organize our notebooks into different sections for vocabulary, reading, and writing. Envelopes in the back of our notebooks help us keep loose papers together. We use colored pencils in our interactive notebooks to color code-- for example, looking for verbs to mark with a green pencil and correcting punctuation with a purple pencil. These are essential supports that help students access grade level content while still learning English. Many of the families of our newcomers are adjusting to life in New York and do not have the means to provide these supplies for their children. We want to set up these English learners for success-- with your help.
