My Students

My children are extremely poor.

My school is in a low socioeconomic area.

The children are in high poverty and at high risk of behavior. It makes me sad when parents tell me they have no money for school supplies. What is even sadder is when that child has to look at me and tell me "my mommy said no she can't buy it". These are children that are five years old, knowing they are poor this should not be happening. Why is this happening to precious children?

Being a second-year teacher is very hard. I had to buy so many supplies for my classroom and next, supplies for my children because their parents can not afford it. I have not received my teacher debit card, nor have I received my badge to go to the Gift For Teaching to receive the free items. I feel like all these children have is me. I do ask parents to help me, but no response. I do write a note to the parents but still, no response. I called, no response. I have a passion for teaching!

My Project

Kindergartners generally use mostly consonants in their writing, as vowel sounds are harder for them to discriminate from one another. Using invented spelling and writing journals for each subject will actually help the children practice the letter-sound relationships she needs for reading. Kindergartners can write some words the “right” way. They will also draw pictures of a classmate, and then list something they like about that person. With writing journals they will be more excited to write and draw a picture at the top. The parents will see so much progress through the school year its amazing! My children loved them last year!!!!!
