Supplies Needed: Moving Beyond the Storm

Help me give my students composition notebooks, binders, and pencils that were destroyed as a result of flooding due to Hurricane Florence.

My Students

My students are a diverse group of ambitious and enthusiastic learners from Eastern North Carolina who work hard on a daily basis to achieve the goals that we set for ourselves. As a teacher in a low-income and high poverty school district, my students face many challenges in and out of the classroom. These students come to school eager and ready to learn but lack the supplies necessary to be effective day to day.

We recently suffered a major setback due to the destruction Hurricane Florence left in its path in Early September 2018, causing catastrophic flooding that has left many of my students displaced, and with a loss of all of their belongings including their school supplies.

Due to a limited budget for school supplies, and the fact that our school was deeply impacted, it has been difficult to purchase these supplies with my own money. My students should have what they need to be successful mathematicians and the last thing I want for any student is for them to be unsuccessful in class simply because they didn't have the supplies needed to succeed.

My Project

On September 14, 2018, our city, located in Eastern North Carolina, was devastated by the rain, winds and storm surge brought forth by Hurricane Florence. Homes in various parts of the city were flooded including the homes of many of my students. This catastrophic event has caused many of the students to the displaced and without adequate clothing and supplies, including the school supplies. I'm requesting composition notebooks, binders, and pencils that they need in order to successfully complete a school day. I am asking for assistance to get these supplies for my students so that there will be one less thing he/she or their parents have to worry about as they begin to rebuild their homes as well as their lives.
