Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Ten of my twenty students are between three and four years old, have been identified with a special need, and are on an Individual Education Plan. This includes Autism, Language and Speech Delays, Cognitive Delays and difficulty with fine and gross motor skills, along with other associated diagnosis. The additional ten students are typically developing Pre-K "role model" students. All of the students are learning how to work cooperatively on all activities throughout the day.

The school population is made up of all cultures and economic situations.

The school provides free breakfast to all students and has a free or reduced-price lunch program for those who qualify. The teachers and administration present safe, working classrooms for all students to grow and develop in a collaborative atmosphere.

My Project

The materials received for my classroom will be used for hands-on-learning activities daily. This will allow my students to increase their kindergarten readiness skills.

The students will gain knowledge by using the supplies creatively, in the different areas around the classroom.

The areas include Art Area, Block Area, Toy/Science Area, Book Area and House Area. Materials such as the dry erase boards will allow the student to explore pre-writing and reading skills, while drawing and printing letters. They will use the staplers and tape to become authors and illustrators, while creating books. The paint, paint brushes, tissue paper and glue will be used to create original art projects. They will also enjoy water play by exploring with the floating blocks in small group activities. As they play in the Toy Area, they will increase their knowledge in science and math while using the magnets, geoboards and geometric shapes.

All of the materials will be used to increase communication, literacy, and social and emotional skills throughout the school year. This will be done by encouraging the students to use turn taking skills and allowing them to share their ideas with peers.
