My Students

My students are very hands-on with their learning; they like to "do" instead of watch from the sidelines. Our school is part of a beautiful and small community that is unfortunately located in an underserved area that is low on resources that could help supplement and expose students to the rest of the world. When it comes to the books that we read in class, they are so open-minded and connect with various characters through their own experiences. While we can make it happen, it is definitely not without help from others outside of the community.

My Project

School supplies should be some of the easiest things to come by. But working in an under resourced area where teachers end up spending over two hundred dollars of their own money to fund their classrooms, I am asking for a little bit of help getting some supplies my students need.

My students need binders and dividers in order to keep track of their work for the upcoming school year.

Teaching organization in the classroom is a very big component and one of the most overlooked skills when it comes to college readiness. This school year, I am also teaching personal finance along with college preparatory work; the cash manipulative will be hands-on and visual for them and will engage them in thinking about finance in the long run. We also need a document camera so that instructions are more clear and easier to understand as I model what is expected for particular assignments.
