I work with sixth grade science students. They ask lots of questions and are learning how to become successful middle school students. The school has a diverse population of approximately 1100 middle school students with 50% of our population receiving special education services.
The students have varying backgrounds and learning abilities, but they work as a team to learn and teach each other in the classroom.
Everyone is treated fairly and without prejudice. Each and every one of the students wants to succeed, as well as help their peers to do so as well.
My Project
We are requesting markers, glue sticks, rulers and compasses. Access to the these materials such as the glue sticks and markers will provide students the ability to have the materials to demonstrate their understanding of science in a creative way. In addition, the rulers and compass will allow them tools to model their learning in a clear manner.
The new science standards are all about students doing science and the ability to demonstrate their understanding through performance based task.
These materials will enrich this ability and allow students some creative expression while showing what they have learned. Students are always so proud of their work when they get to make it their own and these materials will allow them to do so.
