My students need 25 book boxes to store independent reading books in the classroom, and a Phonics Lessons book to help develop phonics skills.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Kaplan's classroom raised $286

My Students
My students have spent the first month of school learning to be independent readers with a high stamina for sustain reading. In order to keep themselves from getting distract everyday choosing books from the classroom library, they need a storage container to keep their own books every day.
My 23 first graders are from a school districts on the outskirts of a large city in Washington State.
It is a K-6 school with a free/reduced lunch of 28%. While some students have families who can support their child's educated through monetary means, many cannot afford to but special schools supplies such as book boxes.
My Project
The book boxes I am requesting will help students to store their personally chosen books throughout the school day. Instead of stuffing books into large Ziploc bags that break easily and are hard to store, students will have their own box that that can carry around the room as they choose their favorite spots to get comfy and read during the day.
The Phonics Lessons book is a very helpful curriculum tool that I have used previously. When teaching the yearlong phonics program presented in this book, I saw marked improvement in students ability to decode words with success. I would like to provide this researched-based instruction to my current students but cannot do so without the lesson guides.
Reading is one of the most fundamental skills that students must learn as first graders.
By providing them with the structures and tools necessary to aid reading instruction in the classroom, students will be more successful learners and readers.
