Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are a diverse group of learners who are eager to participate in after school tutoring programs and clubs.

Our school is one of the most diverse in the city.

Some of languages spoken include English, Spanish, Hindi, Urdu, Swahili, Farsi, and Arabic. Over 90 percent of the students are eligible for free/reduced lunch program. Our school welcomes refugees and new arrivals throughout the year. Sadly, many families are unable to provide school supplies for their children.

Research suggests that participation in extracurricular activities may increase students' sense of engagement or attachment to their school, and thereby decrease the likelihood of school failure and dropping out (Lamborn et al, 1992; Finn, 1993).

My Project

We use a five subject notebook for Social Studies throughout the year. This becomes a portfolio showing students' growth and success for the eighth grade. Students will utilize each section, including a learning log, classwork, illustrated dictionary, reading notes, and research questions and notes. We will glue in copies of primary and secondary sources for analysis and future reference.

Students complete a learning log weekly, they are able to assess themselves and can also document areas of need, such as clarifying understanding.

Students will have everything they need in one notebook allowing for easy access and reference throughout the entire school year.
