This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Kindergarten is for most students their first experience in school. Therefore, I want to create an excitement for learning!! One way in which this is accomplished is through hands on manipulatives and cooperative play in our classroom!

I am privileged to teach kindergarten students.

They are eager and excited to learn. My students attend a large public school and come from low-income households. Many students receive free lunch and also qualify for free after-school programs. Most of my students are learning English as a second language and are attending school for the first time. They don't have many opportunities to participate in academically enriching activities outside of my classroom.

My Project

STEM Bins and STEAM Bins are an ideal hands-on solution for early finishers, morning work, centers, fine motor practice, indoor recess, or positive reinforcement of behavior. They are also a creative and developmentally appropriate form of engineering for elementary students.

Students will be solving problems, building creative design skills, applying structures to real world designs, building fine motor skills, and constructing a variety of 2-dimensional & 3-dimensional shapes, lines, and angles using basic geometry.

We are asking for supplies (not provided by my school district) that will provide the necessary materials to create a variety of STEM/STEAM bins for my students. Items such as pencil boxes, popsicle sticks, velcro dots, and magnets will be some of the materials that used to create the STEM/STEAM bins. Other items such as laminating sheets, labels and colored paper will be used to label and organize the bins for years to come.
