My students are a diverse, enthusiastic, and motivated group of 7th graders. They hail from crime and poverty stricken areas of Philadelphia and 100% of our students qualify for free lunch.
Regardless of the barriers, my students come to school every day looking to be successful.
My job is to provide them the structure and the tools to allow them to reach that goal. By providing a safe and caring classroom culture, coupled with the academic tools that are taken for granted in suburban schools, my students can strive to be their best!
100% of my students qualify for free lunch and many do not have the means to bolster their school supply arsenal. This is often because families do not have the financial or physical means. Many of my children's parents work late hours or multiple jobs, meaning that there is no one to take students to get the supplies. For other students, not having a pencil available to them when they need it becomes an excuse to not do the work.
There are already so many barriers in place for my kids to get the education they deserve.
I will not allow them to get in their own way!
Providing pens, pencils, pencil sharpeners, spiral notebooks, paper, markers, crayons, rulers, and other supplies for students who do not have them takes away the excuses and provides them with the means to be successful.
