This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students regularly ask me why math matters. They learn how to solve problems and interpret made up scenarios all the time, but they often have a hard time understanding just how important math can be. I have been actively building projects into each unit that I teach so that students are able to apply their learning to their own lives.

This has resulted in much more student engagement, excitement around math, and a positive atmosphere in the classroom.

My students have designed their ideal classrooms, owned and operated stores with discounts, commission, and markups, and completed a budgeting plan for their ideal job. These supplies will help me to continue pushing my students to be creative and explore just how relevant math is in their everyday life. Thank you for helping my students practice critical thinking and public speaking skills when they complete and present their projects.
