This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My school is a Title I, K-8 school in Lawrence, Massachusetts, where 100% of the students receive free lunch. Lawrence is an immigrant community and most of my students English Language Learners, living in poverty.

My students are vibrant, passionate, and resilient.

Budgets have been cut recently, making necessary supplies and texts luxury items in the classroom. In order to close the opportunity gap present in this country, we need to provide the basic tools and supplies for educational gain, investment, and college/career readiness.

My Project

We are hoping "Poet X", "Dear Martin", "Beast Girl & Other Origin Myths", and "Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda" will continue to diversify our classroom library with new and relevant texts, promoting representation in the literature my students read. These texts will be read independently by students during Readers' Workshop.

My students have a passion for reading and writing!

These supplies will help continue to foster their love of literature and organize our growing library. The book baskets will provide homes for new books, as our library grows, and we always need more ink for the classroom printer to print and publish student work.
