This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Kindergarten/TK is for most students their first experience in school. Therefore, I want to create an excitement for learning!! One way in which this is accomplished is through cooperative play in classroom centers and through outdoor play!

I am privileged to teach 24 (transitional) kindergarten students.

They are eager and excited to learn. My students attend a large public school and come from low-income households. Many students receive free lunch and also qualify for free after-school programs. Most of my students are learning English as a second language and are attending school for the first time. They don't have many opportunities to participate in academically enriching activities outside of my classroom.

My Project

We are requesting a variety of items for our classroom centers. We need items such as headphones for our computers. The students love to visit the computer center, but unfortunately the headphones we have are old and bulky. We also are in need of large floor puzzles and bingo games that reinforce skills such as the alphabet, shapes, colors and numbers. They enjoy cooperating to build the puzzles and are learning as well! In addition, we would love to have more equipment for outdoor play, like jump ropes and swing ball sets! As well as a cart for the students to easily store the equipment and travel back and forth to the playground yard. We are also requesting glue sticks and paint pallets for our art center and wood building sticks for our building center. Finally, we need motivational stamps and labels to organize and label their work.

The items such as headphones, bingo games and puzzles will be used for many years to assist many students that come into my classroom. Each child will become a more confident and successful student because of the opportunities given to them to use the materials provided by you, the donor.
