My Students

I am an Early Childhood teacher who works at a high risk school that has mostly minorities and ESL (English as a second language) students. My school is a Pre-K through 5th grade school in an urban area of North Carolina and nearly all of our students are living in poverty. I work with a selection of Pre-K through- 5th grade Special Education students. Many of my students are below grade level readers and ESL students who have physical and cognitive disability difficulties learning complex material, vocabulary, fluency, sight word recognition, reading issues and many other learning issues. The students I work with are trying to succeed while coping with a variety of learning, speech, physical and cognitive disabilities. My students are all working at different levels when it comes to reading and comprehension. Despite all these challenges, they are here every day and working hard to be the best that they can be! They are trying to catch up with the other students their age and grade level while also trying not to fall further behind.

My Project

These materials will assist in providing strategies to incorporating technology use with my special education students in the classroom and the Early Childhood office. iPads will help incorporate fun interactive lessons and teach my students to better understand math and reading concepts, comprehension, fluency, vocabulary, word recognition and the communication of ideas with demonstration of knowledge. All materials will be used with elementary students and because of the iPad mini’s small size and the ability to fit firmly in students hands, it will be great to use and prevent dropping. A pack of The Multiplication and Division flash cards will go to each student. The Hot Dot Jr, Play-Doh, and Basic Skills Ring, will be used with the lower grade Elementary students for practice skills.

Technology will assist with ways to keep track of data information required by school and Early Childhood department in accordance with the student's Individual Education Plan.

Technology will allow effective and creative integration strategies that I can use immediately to engage my students in their learning process. Technology can help equalize education for special needs students which helps build confidence and help students find academic success. Having iPads will provide more opportunities for my students with disabilities to learn in alternative ways. It will provide extra support for students in their core classes, as well as in Reading and Math and provide extra support in the EC office. This will help me develop and implement high-quality instructional strategies, while learning, providing and implementing real-life applications provided to students with opportunities to engage in their processing skills through individualize technology instruction.

These materials will help me give my students a fighting chance with their education, explore and learn tips on navigate social sharing, cyber bullying, and plagiarism, and create a positive digital online presence.
