This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Aspirantes con Orgullo! My students are sixth-graders at a bilingual charter school. Students receive education in both English and in Spanish, so by the time they move onto high school, they will be fully bilingual. We are a Title I school, with 90% of our students coming from low-income families.
Many of our students have not had the opportunity to really explore and flourish in the area of math.
My goal, as a math teacher, is to allow my students to make a meaningful connection with each topic I present to them through small groups, videos, presentations, stations, etc.
Seeing my students enjoy learning about the world around them and making connections brings me such joy and pleasure! To be able to provide my students with more supplies to further their love for learning and MATH would mean a great deal.
My Project
In middle school, we create many hands-on activities for students to practice their learning daily. Students create their own activities, posters, and are engaged in hands-on activities daily to apply their learning in mathematics. The several reams of copy paper will allow us the opportunity to continue their learning this school year.
My students enjoy working on activities in mathematics instead of simply reading and writing in a workbook.
This year, my students are fully engaged in creating and in charge of their learning. The copy paper will allow my students to continue their continued growth daily through hands-on activities and projects.
More than half of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
