This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am a kindergarten teacher in an urban community. My students are very diverse in their ethnic, religious, and socio-economic backgrounds. They are also very diverse in their educational experiences. For some, this is their first school experience. I also have students who are also learning English. Although English may not be their dominant language, they come to school excited to learn.
The one thing my students all have in common is their eagerness to learn!
My students are energetic and love to share their thoughts and experiences. My students are eager to learn and participate in whole group discussions. It is a struggle for some as they do not speak English, but they are putting forth the effort and trying their best. I can see that my students are making growth, and I want to continue that momentum.
Our school is located in a high poverty area and our students are limited with background experiences, materials, vocabulary, and language. As a teacher, I am trying to promote as many experiences as possible.
My Project
We are asking for basic classroom supplies, such as pencils, erasers, crayons, glue sticks, copy paper and chart paper. My students will use the materials across the curriculum in reading, writing, math and science. We need pencils to begin learning how to write. We need chart paper to create posters for all the new topics we will be learning about. We need glue for our projects and sorting centers. We need ink for our classroom printer so we can print out more pictures to add to our charts. We introduce new letters each week. At the end of the week we create a poster with the letters we have learned with pictures to match. We love to have pictures in color and we could really use more ink so we can continue having charts with pictures that we can hang in our classroom. We need copy paper for homework and center activities.
Please help me get my classroom ready for the next school year!!
It can be stressful starting the school year without the supplies needed to become successful. With these materials, my students will not have to worry and can begin the school year ready to learn. Students will also know that the supplies are readily available and easily accessible
