This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are sixth grade elementary students at an inner-city school. They are eager to learn, but many face circumstances that can make learning an obstacle. For many, school is the only stable part of their day.

It is my job to guide these students as they break past these hardships and become successful problem solvers who are ready to face real world challenges.

This task is not always easy, and these projects help make the process more enjoyable.

My Project

These materials will help my students have a fresh start to their last year in elementary school. As a grade six teacher, it is my job to prepare students for middle school. I have found that many students struggle with organization. Plastic sleeves and dividers will be used to teach students how to organize materials in their binders. Copy paper is a must in every classroom. It is essential for handouts such as reference sheets, articles, student exemplars, and of course homework.

I want students to feel excited about starting a new school year.

Part of that excitement is created with a fresh batch of school supplies. Markers, colored pencils, pencils are all consumable items that get wear and tear as the year goes on. It is important that my students come into a classroom full of fresh materials to create an environment of excited learners.

In addition, a clean classroom is a healthy classroom. I hold my students accountable for good hygiene, and that should be reflected in the physical classroom itself. Wipes, tissues, hand sanitizer will be crucial to keep germs at bay as the year goes on. The fan will help alleviate the heat of our classroom that can be unbearable at times.
