Supplies for a Colorful Curriculum Needed!

My Students

My classroom consists of thirteen students grades 2nd-4th. It is a self-contained, low-incidence special education room. The individuals are diverse learners that have moderate to severe disabilities that include autism, Down syndrome, and speech and language impairments. Many of my students are from low-income homes. The class is diverse, coming from different backgrounds and cultures.

No matter the challenging situations and difficulties they face, they continue to come to school happy and eager to learn; they are amazing!

We are a Chicago Public School. Currently, our district is in a financial crisis. Because of this, the school lacks funding to appropriately support our classroom and students. With a little help from DonorsChoose, we can get tools to support, enhance, and facilitate learning in a productive way!

My Project

My students are diverse learners that require an individualized and interactive curriculum. My students benefit from repetition and routine activities. Many of the students communicate through pictures. All of these things (interactive curriculum, routine activities, and picture communication) require supplies beyond what the school is able to provide.

Velcro, color ink, and laminating pouches are essential components to making my curriculum a success!

My students respond better to pictures and activities in color. The color helps facilitate learning and differentiating between colors, objects, and places. Because of the need for color printing, I go through A LOT of ink.

I have made interactive learning centers that require an extensive amount of Velcro and laminating. While the initial cost is expensive, the materials allow for the centers to be used and reused for the entirety of the school year, as well as years to come. Thanks for your consideration!
