My Students

Do you remember how exciting it was to go to school and have fun learning? My students cannot experience learning in new and creative ways because they cannot afford the basic supplies in order to apply new knowledge and produce authentic work. You learn more when you hear, see, and do it.

I have very smart and intelligent students that are limited to what they see and do because of the neighborhood they live in.

Most of my students live in apartments in Texas. My student are very interested in learning and expanding their minds but are denied many learning experiences because of their home life. They live in a low poverty area, parents don't spend enough time teaching and showing the children how to act. The only meals some of my students get is at school. The children do not get to explore outside the apartments they stay in. My students are not exposed to real world learning experiences. My school is considered a community school but the parents feel threaten by the staff because of their educational background. Most of the parents in this neighborhood have dropped out of school and is very young. The parents depend on the school for the students' basic necessities and do not understand that they are responsible for their child's supplies.

My Project

Can you please help me to enhance my students' learning by not denying an educational opportunity because we do not have the supplies to produce authentic work? Research have said that we remember twenty percent of what we hear, sixty percent of what we hear and see, and ninety percent of what we hear, see, and do. Please help my students be impacted by the best learning and producing memories that last forever. First grade is the foundation for life in education. What I learn in the first three years of my life in school will impact the rest of my life. It will determine my students destination. Please help my students go beyond the stars and realize that theirs dreams can be a reality. My students will participate in making many things in all subjects to help them to remember each skill being taught. My students will produce authentic work in reading, science, math and social studies, such as foldables, games, dioramas, flash cards, collages and illustrations, writing and making sentences.

Can you imagine trying to make a picture without supplies?

How would you make this picture? What would you use? Students can learn many new skills and not even realize they are learning because they are enjoying it so much. Innovative ways of learning produces authentic work, is creative and fun. In order to teach in new ways, students must have supplies to work with. I would like to provide my students with the same education in a low income community that the rich and famous have.
